  1. Does this mean a possible extension to the Rottnest Hotel?

  2. Does it mean an entirely new hotel?/

  3. Does it mean some other form of 'guest accommodation'?  If so, what?

  4. How many rooms/beds are under consideration?

  5. What other facilities would it have (swimming pool, airconditioning, conference, restaurant, bar?

  6. What would happen to the trees on this site?

  7. How many live-in staff would it require?

Additional 'guest accommodation' on site adjacent to the Rottnest Hotel.  We can only speculate that the site marked in orange on this image is the one in question.  No size or number of rooms was indicated and there was no indication of other possible facilities eg swimming pool, restaurant, bar, conference facilities.

Since we can only speculate on the number of rooms/beds - let us guess at a possible 100 rooms/300 beds for this site.  (Note that we have concerns about the well-grown trees on this land - would they be protected?)

Eco-development in South Thomson...

  1. Is it a luxury tent development or another form of 'eco' development?

  2. How many rooms/beds are under consideration?

  3. What other facilities would it have (swimming pool, airconditioning, conference, retaurant?

  4. How many live-in staff would it require?

  5. What would happen to the trees on this site?

Note: the Society has serious concerns about this area as it is a patch of very well-grown Rottnest Island melaleucas

A 150-unit eco-tourism development was initially announced for this site by then minister, Mark McGowan.  Since then we have heard suggestions of a forty-unit luxury tent development and perhaps a co-located camping ground/eco-development.  We do not know what is currently under consideration.  We do understand that the site marked below is the site being considered and that it may include all of the treed area to the left of the marked site.

Again let us speculate that there could be 100 units/300 beds for this development.

The sites on the map to the right were originally announced by Mark McGowan in late 2005.

The one on Mt Herschel was the first 'Landbank' site to be so released in WA - as a 'development ready' site for a tourism development.
