Early in 2009 the RIA announced that negotiations with Broadwater were off. They also announced that they would be seeking another proponent to build a hotel at Mt Herschel - and this is covered in the the draft Rottnest Island Management Plan that is now open for public comment. April 2009 The images below were the original supplied by Broadwater when they were announced as the preferred proponent in 2007. We understand changes were made to the design but we do not know what changes. The questions we were asking in 2007 have never been answered and should be now. The Society recently submitted a list of questions on this matter but have not received any reply. This cannot be described as 'low impact' on the landscape. We do believe that there has been some modification of the overall height but don't know how much. View more images of the MT HERSCHEL SITE...

Then on 23rd February, because of pressure from us and other members of the public, the RIA announced that it needed to amend the Rottnest Island Management Plan to rezone the land on which it would be built from 'Service and Operation'. We are currently in the middle of a public comment period for the proposed amendments - closing on 23rd April. |
